St. Clement's Church Organ
St. Clement's is blessed with an historically important and fine-sounding Father Willis Church Organ. After many years of faithful service on Sundays, Recitals, Festivals and lots of use by those learning to play, the organ is now in desperate need of repair and overhaul. All the work required will cost £100K.
While this is a daunting task, we have committed ourselves to raising the funds, not only to preserve our musical tradition, but also to conserve a wonderful piece of church heritage and an instrument which has proved popular with professional and amateur organists alike, including the Archbishop of York, the Most Rev'd John Sentamu, the Patron of this Appeal.
So far we have spent £35000 on essential conservation and repair work. We are continuing our fund-raising campaign with the aim of raising that amount again. The next phase will involve:
* to fully repair the Great and Swell soundboards
* Pipe cleaning
* Replacement of the existing electro-pneumatic slider drawstop mechanisms with direct slider solenoid control
The pipe organ was built in 1876 by the famous organ builder Father Willis for St. Thomas's church, Agar Town, Camden. That church was heavily bombed during the Second World War and the organ pipes were rescued from the ruins. After several years in a church hall in Dollis Hill, they were reconstructed by Manders for St. Clement's at a part of the church's restoration in the early 1950's.
And donation to the project would be gratefully received:
